Homelessness in Yakima

Lee Murdock, Director of the Homeless Coalition of Yakima County, will present about the challenges of homelessness in Yakima and what is being done about it. We will also have a more informal conversation with Ms. Murdock after the service.

Regular Services Cancelled

The regular service is cancelled due bad weather and slick roads. Please stay warm and safe. Rev. Ken Jones is walking to church and putting the coffee on for anyone who wants to drop in.

First Sunday Breakfast

Bring the family and join us for food and fellowship after a short reflection led by Merrill Thomsen.

The Practice of Naming

Humans are creatures greatly informed by our use of language.  One way we use language is to name people and things.  Lakes, rivers, eras, and even religious communities are named.  Is that what they then become?

On NOT Honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

In some ways, it has become too easy — especially for people who identify as white — to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King.  To really understand his work, and what remains to be done in America today, means this should be really hard work.

The Long March

On the Sunday before the Women’s March on Yakima, UUCY members Merrill Thomsen and Susan Kaphammer (and others) reflect on why we keep marching.

First Sunday Breakfast

Bring the family for our monthly ritual of a short ingathering service followed by breakfast and fellowship for everyone. Bill Jacobs will lead our ingathering, speaking on “County Courthouse, September 25, 2018.”

Turning the Corner: Reflections and Intentions

All are invited to this informal gathering with time for personal remembrances of the past year and hopeful plans for the year to come. Join in the Fellowship Hall between 10 AM and Noon for community, conversation and coffee. Stay the whole time or just drop in.

Holiday All-Family celebration

All ages will enjoy this holiday celebration where we decorate our seasonal tree with the rituals and traditions that bring meaning to many of us.
